When people have very deep connections to certain things or people or memories, it's a pretty lousy move to prey on that, even for the purpose of a joke.
It doesn't matter that nothing happened, or that nothing was ever going to happen. My cat means the world to me. I can't truly be with him here, so I have a very strong sentimental attachment to the photos and videos of him that exist on my phone.
They're basically treasures for me, even if they mean little or nothing to you. And you made a joke about throwing them all away.
You could have easily thrown away my trust in you at the same moment. I'm honestly still feeling unsure right now.
So to you, it wasn't terrible. But to me, it was by far the worst experience I've ever had since you brought me to Mobius.

Humans really do get attached to animals, don't they? Even though they can't understand you or say anything back, they love you anyway and you love them back. Even though you know you can't be together forever, you're happy even if you know you're going to be sad someday. And even if I brought something like him here, you'd be sad because it wouldn't be the real thing. And because of that, having pictures and videos are important to you. Because it's as close to the real thing as you can get for now. I see. I learned something interesting today.

It's sort of like you're being given a window to see where it's being stored in the central servers. It's a bit more complicated than that, but I don't know if it's something I could explain to a human. So... If anything ever happened to your phone, none of the files would really be gone. They'd be safe and I could restore them as many times as you like.
